Sydney Functional Ecology

A lab led by Dr Mark Wong

The Sydney Functional Ecology lab explores the forms, functions and futures of organisms on our changing planet

Every living design holds purpose

We study species’ traits and strategies to address the impacts of global change on biodiversity and ecological function

We have a special interest in insects, the movers and shakers of ecosystems

Combining field experiments, natural history, ecological theory and global analyses, we uncover the processes that sustain and threaten biodiversity

We communicate our science widely to inspire action and admiration for the natural world

Led by Dr Mark Wong, the lab will be established at The University of Sydney in late 2025
